Akira's house

Akira's House is a renovated hundred-year-old Kyo-machiya, and an unusual one: a single-storey layout of about 35 square metres with no stairs, suited to one to three guests who want to take Kyoto at their own pace. Inside there is a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, a generous bedroom, a tatami tea room that doubles as a small second sleeping space, and a private bathroom, toilet and washbasin, all opening onto a small Japanese garden. The location works hard despite the quiet street: it sits in the Kyoto Station district, where JR, Kintetsu, the subway and city buses put Osaka, Shiga, Nara and Uji all within reach for day trips. The nearest station is Kintetsu Toji, about five minutes on foot; JR Kyoto Station is around twenty minutes' walk or ten by taxi. For daily needs, a supermarket is two minutes away, a 7-Eleven four, and Matsuya, KFC and a local izakaya about five.
