B&B overview
This is a Kyo-machiya of nearly a hundred years, renovated by Tato Architects, who kept the original structure and its character while building in the comfort of a modern home. There is underfloor heating throughout, which makes a real difference in a Kyoto winter, along with two separate toilets and a bathroom whose tub looks onto the courtyard. The kitchen is properly equipped for longer stays, the kind of place where cooking with what you find at the local markets becomes part of the trip. It sits on a quiet lane in central Kyoto, with Nijo Castle, Nishiki Market and the Karasuma shopping streets all within about a fifteen-minute walk. For two or three guests who want to settle into the city rather than pass through it, both the layout and the location suit a longer stay.
