B&B overview
Hinokiya is a two-storey Kyoto machiya in Mibu, Nakagō-ku, built in the 1940s and fully renovated in 2025. The ground floor holds the living room, the dining area and the kitchen, a bathroom with a tub wide enough for two, and a tatami room that looks onto a 40㎡ private Japanese garden; futons can be laid out there to make a fourth bedroom. Upstairs are three bedrooms, each with its own door, so nobody walks through another person's room, and a second set of shower, toilet and washbasin. With two bathing areas and two toilets on different floors, a group of nine can get ready without queuing. The staircase was rebuilt with a gentler slope, floor heating runs through the house and the windows are double-glazed. There is also a private hot tub, available all year. The kitchen has a dishwasher, an induction hob, a rice cooker and a Nespresso machine, and there is a washer with a dryer. A LIFE supermarket is a minute away on foot. Hankyu Saiin and Randen Saiin stations are each about 6 minutes' walk: from Hankyu Saiin, Kyoto-Kawaramachi is 3 stops and Osaka-Umeda needs no change, and the Randen tram runs straight to Arashiyama. A taxi from Kyoto Station takes about 15 minutes.
