B&B overview
Shinonome is a two-storey house in the Rokuhara area of Higashiyama, finished with traditional Japanese craftsmanship: tatami, shoji screens and a small courtyard garden behind the bath. The ground floor has a Japanese-style living area, a dining area, the kitchen and a desk facing the street for laptop work, along with the bath (shower and tub), two washbasins, a separate toilet and a washer and dryer. Upstairs are three bedrooms, a second toilet and a washbasin. The large tatami room sleeps three on futons and has shoji instead of blackout curtains, so morning light comes in. The Western-style room has a double bed, and the small tatami room for one opens onto it through a sliding door, which suits a family that wants to sleep close together. Guests who find stairs difficult can ask for two futons in the ground-floor living area. Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo Station is about 6 minutes on foot, and Gion-Shijo is one stop north. On foot, Rokuharamitsu-ji is 3 to 5 minutes away, the Kamo River 6 to 8, Kennin-ji 8 to 10 and the Yasaka Pagoda 12 to 15. Kiyomizu-dera takes 20 to 25 minutes, the last stretch uphill. A taxi from Kyoto Station takes about 10 minutes. The house is registered under the Private Lodging Business Act (M260068443).
